DHS Nominees Pledge Commitment to Cybersecurity

Microsoft warns Solar Winds hackers are launching new cyber attacks.

President Biden’s nominees to the Department of Homeland Security have expressed their commitment to increasing the nation’s cybersecurity from attacks this week before the Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs.

“Recent incidents from SolarWinds to Colonial Pipeline, have only further highlighted the urgency to secure critical infrastructure and Federal networks from cyberattacks,” nominee for under secretary for DHS Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans Robert Silvers said during the hearing.

A new wave of cyberattacks targeting government agencies, think tanks, consultants, and NGOs, has been discovered by Microsoft, who says the same Russian hackers who were behind the massive Solar Winds attacks several months ago are at it again.

A spokesperson for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency said they are “aware of the potential compromise, and that it was working with USAID and the FBI to better understand the extent of the compromise and assist potential victims.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for the Senate as they consider DHS nominees.
  • For U.S. officials and personnel tasked with protecting the nation’s cybersecurity.
  • For President Biden and his advisers as they consider actions to take in response to hackers from Russia.
  • For the president as he prepares to meet with President Putin next month.
